great quote ....

"The expression of beauty is in direct ratio to the power
of conception the artist has acquired."
(Gustave Courbet)

friday

i'm not going to paris.
but someone else is. I am trying very hard
not to act jealous.

I love Paris.
to console myself,
i'm asking for Clover knitting needles from France.
hopefully, some double pointed needles will come to me next week.

monday, i made a list of what i wanted.
last night, i couldn't find my list !!!
AAARGH.
i've started a new list. but the original one is driving me crazy.

it's another rainy day today.
the knitting companion is relaxing on a chesterfield.

Rainy thursday

the knitting companion
has been helping with the Man Sock knitting.
Today, he's having a very laid back day,
as the rain & dark skies have lulled him to sleep.

Montreal knitters had a fabby time last night.
There is no photographic documentation to this effect.
You'll just have to take my word for it.

the Knitting Companion

The Knitting Companion is having a sleepy day.
don't worry, i didn't wake him up during the making of this photograph.

knitting tonight.

tonight, the montreal knits group is
having a between-meet meet.
there's a big chance i won't be able to
attend Next week's meeting,
so i am ultra happy about tonight.

I will be bringing a new project; and will want
to show & tell;
and more importantly: Ask questions.

Questions ? yes: i had a timid query about making something.
Note that this is NOT a request.
Nobody came out and ASKED for anything.
Which i found charming and quite touching.

As you know, i have a new love for my knit socks.
i think they're the most fabulous thing to wear.
my guy has heard me say this about 14,000 times.
since i've just learned to knit socks recently, he's had
a steady stream of hearing about My Socks.
He's never before wanted a hand knit garment of any
kind by me. Politely thanked
me for my last offer & said no, thanks.
which is fine by me, i'd rather people say the truth, than have
me knit something that never gets worn.

I asked " would you ever want your own hand knit socks ? "...
(yes, i was prepared for the answer to go either way).
and timidly, he responded :
"you'd Make ME Socks ?!!".
yes, of Course i'd make him socks.

i started last night. they're going to be green.
he said no thank you to stripes,
patterns or contrasting toes or heels.
Just one colour.
Ok, then.
glad i chose a colour that i love. Yes, he loves it too.

the knitting companion loves the yarn.
Of course he does. it's merino.

two more ....

two more pair of Mountain Bearfoot colors (not "colours")
socks are complete !
they feel so Great !
these photos were taken before washing or blocking
or Actually WEARING them for that matter.
Yes, they're being Modelled for the sake of the blog photos.

don't try this position at home:
it does not give a good silhouette for your sock.
rather, it gives the look of an
unnecessarily Thick ankle.

and, to finish the happy
dance of finished socks:
a little close up to show you the colour.
this shade is called " moose river".

Wedesday ~

mona's blog also features the Sock quiz -
and look at that !
we got the same outcome !

Delicious socks complete !

The amber, rust coloured Mountain Color Bearfoot socks are finished and sewn up!

and before you think i have a One track Sock-making mind,
no. it's not true. i do have several other projects on the go (including a long sleeved top which misses me terribly). I'm trying to make a collection of socks to wear. for all weather circumstances.

for the week starting October 9th, 2005

Canadian Astrologer, Georgia Nichols,
has this to say about the week:

GEORGIA NICOLS for the week beginning October 09, 2005

All Signs (Eastern Time Zone)

An alert for the keeners. Mercury goes retrograde on Nov. 13, but even
before that we'll have confused communications, transportation problems
and silly errors because Mercury slows down before the actual retrograde.
Therefore, if you're trying to get anything off the ground -- hustle thy
buns and do it in October! (Oh yeah.) Don't buy ground transportation in
November. Mercury goes direct on Dec. 3rd, but doesn't resume speed (in
relation to Earth) until Dec. 13th. So the wonky time is from around Nov.4
to Dec.13. Got it? But hey - Mercury retrograde is not exactly three weeks
in the Bardo! It's a great time to finish things, find hidden answers and
research the past. (Ah the past - yes, the older I get, the better I was.
Ain't it the truth?)

**
Happy new week, dear readers.
comments ? i'd love to hear from you.

Last week's knitting meet

Happy Day after thanksgiving.
the knitting companion poodle boy
and i were out yesterday for

Thanksgiving feast. He's rather tired today.
I know he's looking forward to getting
together with some fine wool.

who can blame him ? i am too.

ah. Finally some photos from last
wednesday's knit meeting at the café to share with you.

here to start our photo delights is some delightfully soft Stretchy-merino wool
that Mona is going to whip into some glorious creation.

it's so soft, that it makes her
THIS happy:

Yes, did you notice that mona is knitting so quickly
that one of her hands is actually a knitty blur in the photo ?
it's true. Mona's a whiz.
More proof that actual knitting does take place when we get together.

And ! these happy & adorable little Mitten creations
were knit by Melanie for some lucky lucky baby.
there is a hat in progress to go with.

More from Wednesday Evening

sock in progress, and some tools on Wednesday evening.

here's Caroline with her lovely Regia sock in progress.
she worked hard on that sock on Wednesdsay evening ...
she may even be wearing them by now !

and here is Mary's creation.
By far the Brightest sock of the evening.
brought to you today, by the poodle blog because
Mary L-J. was in such a whirl of a hurry,
she dashed in & dashed out. many
knitters missed the chance to catcha a glimpse of Mary.
She was such a good sport to even come in for a short burst of knitting meet, since she
wasn't finished her work day.

maybe we'll be able to pull together
an impromptu knit meeting this week ... ??

what type of Sock are you ?

Super long sock
Wow! You would have been a pair of socks as long
as it's possible for socks to be before they're
tights - and all multi-coloured with pretty
patterns and detail all over the place - then
you could stand and admire your sock-self all
day!

??

the fonts seem to be having a little fun-party of their
own today on the blog.
please excuse the Enormous
text for today's entry.

I have tried to adjust it six times.
It does not want to comply.
i'm going to let it have its wild ways.

More Road Trip: foul from the Québec Region

Happy Thanksgiving.

many thanks for all of the great comments. It's wonderful to hear from you. Or read from you,
as the case may be. Thanks so much.

Getting underway with the sharing some of the sights from my trip...

today i bring you:
Photos of foul from Québec region.

This is a shy Turkey.

The turkey was not at all
ok about having its photo taken.

it's standing perfectly still in the hopes that i will mistake it for the vegetation, and go along my merry way.

Which i did, because i didn't want to stress the turkey.
They already have enough to think about.

Seen above: nap time for the special ducks.

Friendly brown chickens.
maybe i should say Curious rather than Friendly.
they were probably just checking me out in case
i brought them something to eat.
