an update with Big News

Finally: We’re on the road.

We’ve left Vermont, and driven through New York (the state, not the city),

then Pennsylvania
and now in Ohio, for the night.

So far, there has been a dusting of snow on the ground
everywhere we've been.
I've seen so many hawks, a muskrat,
and several lovely deer. (white tailed)
Sorry, no wildlife photos from the road.

Today, we had nine hours of road-tunes
that included a symphony orchestra,
Rufus Wainright,

Maryann Faithfull,
Johnny Cash,
the Beatles,
Mick Jagger
and ... well so much more.

Sorry that i have no photo evidence for you
tonight.

My internet connection isn't ideal
from my new location, so i won't tempt
internet-fates by staying on line longer.

i'm going to have a cup of tea
and go to bed.

Limbo, Limbo

Oh No
.

we have been advised to Drive BACK
to the usa/canadian border, to
make another visit with the American
border guards.

Oh boy: just what everyone
wants. another day of driving
back to point "A".
Gads.

i hope that the rain stops tomorrow.
An i hope that the Paperwork goes through
this time.

And i hope we can finally Start
our road trip, instead of driving
hours & hours for nothing.
This isn't a fun way of starting
off in a new country and a new city.

Cathy: yes,
thank you - your comments are
here in the blog.

The Knitting Companion is catching
up on his beauty rest today.

Still not on the road

it's a grey Thursday at lunch time.
It's been raining all day.

The Companion and i are still in Burlington, Vermont.
We haven't had
any resolutions yet for our paperwork.
We'll be here in Vermont overnight again.

I had a Ben and Jerry's ice cream bar (Cherry Garcia, yum)
last night. physical proof that if you're going to be
in limbo somewhere, Vermont is a good place to be.

Since our road-time has been delayed, it looks
like i'm going to have my very first American Thanksgiving
on the road. As i lamented to a friend, she advised:

" If you stop at Denny's,

you have to order the Moon Over My Hammy."

that made me laugh.

phew.

Thank Goodness
that the hotel
has free, wireless internet.

Phew.

Oh - and the Roadtrip
won't start until we get the
right paperwork from the
people at the border.

On the Road and not really

Time for a brief update
on The Roadtrip To California.

So far, it's a lot of red tape.

The movers took an Eponentially long time to
load our goods onto a truck. I'm sure they were
all well rested at the end of the day.
If you ever need to know what moving
company not to hire, i can certainly
make a recommendation.

We had expected to arrive
at the border by 2 in the afternoon.
Ha. Movers didn't leave until four.

At the USA border, they told us to
come back the next day. We can't take the
rented car back into Canada.
We stayed , as originally planned, in
Burlington Vermont.

We had an appointment to go back
to the border this morning at 8am.
it's about an hour's drive.

It was a lovely sunny morning. We arrived
for our appointment at 8. it took
Two hours. They told us to
Come Back another time ...

And because of the rented car (etc, etc)
we need to stay in usa.

We got back to the hotel (we'd already checked
out before 7am this morning).

So, Knitting Companion
and i are tired beyond belief.

We'll be making the trekk
back to the border again ....

but i don't even want to think about it yet.
I've just made a cup of tea.
It's time for Knitting Companion's supper.

This isn't a Jack Kerouac kind
of trip. Too Much Red Tape.

count down to road trip

tic tic,
our Cross Continent
road trip begins very shortly.

Today my internet connection gets turned off.
Tomorrow the First of the Movers
arrives.

We'll be looking for

pet-friendly hotels along the way.
Hopefully I'll find some internet
connections as well to fill in
some updates.
