santa & the snow

Santa (among many others)
had hoped for Christmas in Montreal
to be white.
It was not.

Above, Santa
and the Knitting Companion wait
for snow ....
and then, just after Christmas day,
Montreal did have some snow.

Now, a week into the new year,
and sadly the snow is gone again.
This is not Normal for Montreal-in Winter.
We're all Waiting. January is supposed
to be full of Snow.

Snow !
Now, i wonder if i can find something
to console me, something nice ....
perhaps a new meringue ?

Some guests are not noisy .....

The Knitting Companion's white
Brother came over to celebrate
the New Year.
He was very tired from all of
his Christmas Activities & visiting.
This is how The Brother
spent New year's eve.

It's raining. How Wrong for January

it's a dark grey day here in Montreal.

It's raining.
Blah.

the Knitting Companion is not fond
of the wet weather.
Instead, he likes to curl up and go
to sleep. Somewhere soft is best.

No big updates to report on the Treasure box.
it's still partly filled with chocolates.

George Bernard Shaw left us with this -

"Take care to get what you like
or you will be forced
to like what you get."
(George Bernard Shaw)

Pablum, the light bulb, the telephone ....

Tonight, CBC television aired
"The Greatest Canadian Invention(s)".

You probably already know that the Blackberry
is a Canadian invention.
But did you know that the Electric oven,
insulin,

the light bulb and pablum are all among
Canadian Inventions?

They are. Learn more here. Click on
"The 50 Inventions" to see them.

the holidays brought foods

Besides festive, full meals,
the Knitting Companion and i have
also seen the delicious
and festive omlette,
(it was marvellous)

the Festive nut,
(i hope it becomes part of a pie.)

the festive fruits,
Yum,

And of course, the wonderful meringues.

Wow. They were so pretty.

a brief knitting update

The Knitting Companion
and i have been

doing some very relaxing knitting
over the past week.

No patterns, no fancy stitches.
Lilac coloured mohair. It has more
of a "bloom" than a "halo".
However, i seem to have
much less of the lovely mohair
than i had imagined.

Much less.

Is there a trip to a yarn store in the
future?
Perhaps. But all shops
are closed today.

So i've just cast on something else.
Something mohair. A soft laceweight yarn.
Lovely lime green, hand dyed, with little swooshes
of a deeper green every now and again.

Happy 2007.

To end the year ...

There are fancy food
preparations on the go
today chez Knitting Companion.
You will be glad to know that
the K-C has been having his own
festive meals this week. No one is to
be left out of course.

We received a lovely box of chocolates
last week. I am pleased to say
that once the box is empty
i will own a
very lovely "treasure box".
Now the only job
is to eat all the chocolates.

A look back

Back in September,
i wrote about a day in
the Old City/vieux port of Montreal.
While touring about with friends,
we came across
many (more than seven)
Weddings in progress.

In Photo-progress that is.

I wonder how all those newly-weds are
doing now ??
