Replenishing

it dawned on me yesterday morning:
i'm on my last skein of sock yarn. I thought
that i was well stocked. I was mistaken.

You know what this means:

i had to get more,
since the last skein was already in use.

Can't have any knitting going on without more yarn in the wings. !!

News from Mouliné; in spite of my requests for
the lovely Mountain Colours bearfoot yarn, Svetlana will not be ordering any.
Darn, and my birthday is
a very long way off ... (hello, ? mom ? ?)

and now, Sheep direct from Shetland:

did you know that sheep can be quite camera shy?
my mom tried to take some photos of the sheep in Scotland ... and the sheep were really not ok with this.
Photos of Orkney & Shetland to follow...

Back to in-house knitting news: here's the Regia sock i started
at the knitting meet up on Wednesday
evening; shot with natural light ...

and here it is as of this rainy Saturday morning; not photographed
with natural lighting:

the new socks

here, being modelled especially for this blog; are the completed Mountain Colours Bearfoot wool & mohair socks. They are deliciously soft.
And i can't wait to get more of this wool ! !

what kind of a knitter are you... (quiz)

Knitting Guru
You appear to be a Knitting Guru. You love knitting
and do it all the time. While finishing a piece
is the plan, you still love the process, and
can't imagine a day going by without giving
some time to your yarn. Packing for vacation
involves leaving ample space for the stash and
supplies. It can be hard to tell where the yarn
ends and you begin.

What Kind of Knitter Are You?

four a.m.

it was a lovely cool night and the windows were open.
because of the brisk breeze blowing through the house at four in the morning, two of my doors slammed shut. my sleepy thought was "oh, sounds like The Exorcist". (!?)

Well, the knitting companion must have thought the same thing.

Usually, he sleeps like a rock through the night.
After the slamming doors,
he came to tell me he was afraid. No, he doesn't sleep on my bed. He has his own.

i closed the windows after that because the creaking door was creeping him out. (old house with doors that don't exactly close properly but do have big sound effects). Poor little dog went to sleep after that. Today we're both a bit tired.

In knitting news,
i started a new pair of socks Wednesday evening. Another Regia self-striping wool. it's going to make a very cute pair of socks.
Yes, i am fully capapble of making things that are not socks.
For the time being, i choose not to. In yarn, at least. In metal, i'm steering away from socks.

Here's a look at a Just-finished-hat. (shhhh, it's for a present)
lovely soft wool from Manos del uruguay.

Today's fortune cookie ....

To make a long story short, don't tell it.

A meetup is always fun

finally!!, i was able to go to a meeting of Montréal Knits last night. it's been ages since i've been able to go.
it was great to see everyone.

However, for a half hour before the meet, i looked for my mini-book of photos from Scotland. I was annoyed that i couldn't find them.
I found them this morning (but of course) before breakfast.

last night i did manage to bring my fresh-from-Scotland Isis yarn...

and finally,
because
i love penguins,
you can see them here in daylight hours (EDT)
at their home in montréal,
at the bio dome.

Look Very closely

Have a good look at this photo.
Look closely, and you will notice that this image is a detail of
a textile.
This is the the hand crafted wall art that Frances Caple created in her studio in Ness, on the Isle of Lewis. This work is made from hundreds (or thousands ? !) of pieces of Harris Tweed (yes, the real deal ) and all folded and sewn together to create magnificent, three dimensional wall art.

I had the very good fortune to meet Frances while i was in Lewis. you can see
frances' blog here.

Just What type of indie elitist are You ?

serge
French pop Kid. You like to listen to Serge
Gainsbourg and you can actually understand what
he's saying. You prefer to go to sit at a cafe
discussing philosophy and art, and chances are
you're speaking in french, just to be
pretentious. Still, you've got great taste in
music, and it's okay to be pretentious about
it, because you know your cool and you could
careless if anyone else thinks so.

Wednesday already ....

i've been bamboozled by a monster headache this week. enough to send me to bed. Not good for a busy work week.
To say that i've been less than productive is an understatement.

knitting photos will be along soon. ....
the lovely colinette "isis" yarn is happily in use.
